Cats can spend most of their time sleeping. Uniquely, this animal often sleeps in various positions, including those that look strange. However, do you know the meaning of a cat's sleeping position?

Cat Sleeping Positions and Their Meanings You Need to Know

There are many cat sleeping positions or styles that can be seen and all have their own meanings. Here are some meanings of cat sleeping positions that you need to know:

1. Loaf

As the name implies, this position is similar to the shape of a whole loaf of bread. The cat looks like it is lying on its stomach with its arms and legs folded under its body, while its head remains upright or sometimes placed on the floor.

The meaning of a cat sleeping like this is that they are trying to sleep, but remain alert so that they can move quickly if there is danger approaching. This position is very common for cats because it can keep the body warm while protecting their vital organs.

Sometimes, this loaf pose is also a sleeping position for sick cats, especially in the legs or soles. If the cat often sleeps in this position and looks limping when walking, it is possible that the cat has an injury to the soles of its feet or claws.

2. Curled Up (Crescent/Croissant)

Cats often sleep curled up until their bodies appear circular or crescent-shaped. The cat's curled sleeping position can mean two things, namely to warm themselves and the instinct to protect their chest and stomach from predators.

If your cat seems to be sleeping in a curled up position, they may be cold. You can provide a warm bed, close the doors and windows, or turn on the heater.

3. Sleeping on their side

Cats are also often seen sleeping on their side or side, while their stomachs are slightly open. The meaning of this cat sleeping style is that they feel relaxed, comfortable, and confident in a safe place.

However, cats that are sick will sometimes sleep this way. The sleeping position of a cat when sick usually puts its head on the floor (drooping) and looks weak. If you often find your cat sleeping weakly like this and is not as active as usual, take it to the doctor immediately for further examination.

4. Superman Pose

The cat sleeps on its stomach or on its stomach with its legs straight so that it looks like Superman flying. This includes positions that make cats relax while protecting their stomachs.

On the other hand, this Superman pose can also be a sign that the cat is hot. When the air is too hot, cats can sleep in this position and stick their stomachs on the cooler floor.

5. Sleeping on their backs

Cats can sleep on their backs and leave their stomachs exposed without protection. The meaning of this sleeping position is that the animal feels in a very safe place so they don't need to bother protecting their vital body parts.

However, it is best to avoid tickling or rubbing the cat's stomach. Most cats don't like their stomachs being touched, especially when they are sleeping.

6. Sitting Position

As a cat lover and owner, you may have seen cats sleeping in a sitting position like humans. Similar to sleeping on their backs, cats usually leave their stomachs or vital areas exposed when they sleep.

The meaning of this sleeping position for cats indicates that the animal has high trust in its surroundings, including you as the person who keeps it. Cats think that they are in a safe environment so they feel very relaxed.

7. Cat Sleeping in Litter Box

One of the cat sleeping positions that should be watched out for is when the animal sleeps in the litter box where it defecates. Usually this sleeping style is a sign that the cat is experiencing health problems such as digestive disorders or urinary tract problems.
